Joyce Poh
Dizi
Joyce started learning the Dizi in Secondary one and subsequently became the Dizi sectional leader and participated in the MOE-CCAB National Chinese Orchestra music camp in 2002 & 2003. After obtaining both distinctions in NUS-CFA Dizi Diploma and NAFA-CCM Dizi Grade 9, Joyce took part in the National Arts Council National Chinese Music Competition (NCMC), and was awarded the certificate of distinction for coming in first in the Dizi Open Category (2008). She also achieved first prize with a certificate of Distinction for the NAC-NCMC (Ensemble Category) with Toa Payoh West CC Chinese Orchestra in 2010 and 2012.
Having been a member (2004 - 2014) and Dizi section principal (2012 - 2013) of the Singapore Youth Chinese Orchestra (SYCO), Joyce had been invited to perform solo concertos with the SYCO in 2010 and 2013 and twice overseas in Taiwan. Joyce was also invited to perform a solo concerto titled “Joy” in 2012 for the Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) Marathon Finale Concert and freelances as a Dizi guest musician with them.
During her time in Singapore Polytechnic (SP), she represented Singapore Polytechnic Chinese Orchestra (SPCO) to perform at Star Cruise Virgo in 2006 and was the secretary of the SPCO. Joyce graduated with a Diploma in Music and Audio Technology with Merit from SP and a B.A with Merit in Theatre Studies at NUS. She also obtained ABRSM Grade 5 Music theory.
She has also performed for TV shows such as "The 5 Show" with The Asian Contemporary Ensemble for promoting SG50 National Day Esplanade Concourse (2016), Getai Finals Competition for HaoHao (2016), Luo Yi Qi (2018), Angie Lau (2018), and Lions Charity Show for Pornsak (2017). Joyce has held overseas performances in countries such as Hongkong, Ipoh, France, Taiwan, Beijing, and Jarkata. Other past performances include, SCO & T'ang Quartet’s Huang Ruo's Paradise Interrupted organised by SIFA (2016), guest musician with Singapore Symphony Orchestra for their National Day Concert at the Esplanade (2018).
Joyce started teaching Dizi in various Primary and Secondary schools Chinese Orchestra CCAs since 2007 and is now a full-time CCA, AMIS music enrichment instructor.
Currently, Joyce is also the Band Leader of Yun Ensemble, and performs for TENG Gives Back and various concerts and shows at the Esplanade, Botanic Gardens, Singapore Conference Hall, hotels, and private corporate events, festivals and organisations.
