Registration for Chinese Instrumental Music Grading Examinations 2023 Open Till 29 September
Early Bird Discounts Applies for Submissions Before 8 September 2023
Singapore, 3 July 2023 – The TENG Company (TENG) and Confucius Institute, Nanyang Technological University (CI-NTU) returns with its annual Chinese Instrumental Music Grading Examinations (CIMGE). This year marks the 7th year of TENG and CI-NTU’s partnership for the CIMGE. Similar to the previous edition, the examinations will be conducted live. This accreditation exercise is also open to international applicants who will be assessed digitally via video submission. The organising parties are also proud to announce that the second edition of the Examination Scores are available for use from this year onwards. The scores are expected to be released in phases over the course of the next 2 years. The revised syllabus will now include more local folk songs and compositions to strengthen the identity of a uniquely Singaporean Chinese music grading examination. In addition, orchestral excerpts from local compositions has also been included, particularly in Grade 2 and 3, strengthening learners’ training in musical and technical capabilities when performing in an orchestral setting, to further support the growth and performance standards of school orchestras. The expanded repertoire for the Certificate in Professional Performance level also include more recent works, to appeal to students that are more exposed to contemporary compositions. Registrations open from 3 July to 29 September, with an Early Bird discount up to 25% off, applicable for all registrations done by 8 September. Examinations will be held from 25 November to 8 December.
This yearly accreditation exercise marries the academic and cultural prestige of CI-NTU with the lauded industry and musical expertise of TENG. With the common goal of promoting Chinese culture in Singapore through music, the exercise is a joint effort in realising the potential within musicians. When accomplished, individuals can expect to receive accreditation that is recognised by both musical institutions and organisations in Singapore. Offering a diverse range of 17 instruments that serve as pillars in a Chinese orchestra and eight grades leading up to the acclaimed Certificate in Professional Performance, it is one of the most comprehensive systems for Chinese music in Singapore.
